The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu has called on women, especially those in the Institution, to continue to struggle for more strides.
The Vice Chancellor made the call while declaring open the International Women’s Day Celebration of the University.
He affirmed that women are doing great in all spheres of life, noting that women compliments the efforts of men.
Earlier, the Director, Center for Gender Affairs, Professor Naomi John Dadi-Mahmud explained that every Eight of March is set aside globally to mark World International Women’s Day, stressing that this year, the University decided to celebrate the day for the first time.
Professor Dadi-Mahmud stressed that the theme of the this year “Inspire Inclusion “ is well chosen to enable all women to be inclusive in all aspects of life.
In their Separate Goodwill Messages, representative of Iya Loja General of Nigeria, Dr. Mujidat Folashade Tinubu and Professor Elele Ugu calls for more inclusion of women in all aspect of life, urging women to be willing and ready to be included in all aspect.
The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Farid Center, Hajiya Amina Jummai Gimba who spoke on the topic, “The Disabled Needs a Friend“, explained that women are everything in the community.
According to her, there is discrimination between men and women as same goes to people with special needs, stressing the need to be more empathetic and support them to be able to live like normal people.
Hajiya Amina Gimba appealed to the University Management to provide a space for people with special needs as well as freedom of choice.
In her closing remarks, the Deputy Director, Center for Gender Affairs, Dr. Balaraba Abubakar Sule reaffirmed that the International Women’s Day is indeed significant and appreciated University Management and IBBUL women for their relentless efforts towards the advancement and promotion of women.

Resource inspection teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) have commended the Management of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai for ensuring adequate preparations toward the takeoff of Faculty of Law and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Institution in the next academic session.
The team which was a combination of Director Academic Planning of NUC, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Professor of Law as well as renowned Professors of Pharmaceutical Sciences from high ranking universities in the country were received by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu at the Management Meeting Room of the University.
Speaking while receiving the two teams, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the Acting Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr Chris Jibreel Mayaki for the powerful delegation to inspect and assess the two programmes and stressed that the University was conscious of the Commission’s standards and is ready to maintain them.
In their separate remarks, the NUC delegations applauded the Management for their futuristic plan towards the establishment of the two faculties in the University.
On his part, the Director Academic Planning, National Universities Commission (NUC), Mallam Abubakar Girie said IBB University, Lapai Faculty of Law complex being constructed, when completed will be a model and largest in Nigerian universities; stressing that the complex was well structured and well organized, with all the required facilities and adequate offices for both Teaching and Non teaching staff with Moot Court, Law Clinic, Judge’s Chamber, Law Library and e-law Library in the building.
He stressed that the Law complex has an ultra-modern auditorium, six classes with over two hundred and fifty seats capacity.
Also the team leaders of the two Faculties, Professor Maxwell Michael and Professor Ibrahim Mohammed Sule lauded the Management of the University for strictly adhering to the rules of establishing and commencement of the Law and Pharmaceutical Sciences programmes.
They noted that some universities that were anxious to commence the programmes did not invite the NUC for resource inspection to give necessary approval before commencing such programmes, which they pointed out that at the end the programmes were closed down for not complying with requisite standards.
The duo, also enjoyed the Management to keep the tempo higher and expressed optimism that the result of the visit would be favourable for the programmes to takeoff.
In his vote of thanks, the Registrar, Alhaji Idris Saleh Kusherki applauded the Team members for their commendations and reassured them that the University Management would continue to adhere to the professional advice to ensure that the two programmes commence without any hitch.
Highlights of the resource inspection exercise was visit by each team to the permanent structures being constructed for the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences respectively, and thorough assessment of required human resources and other basic facilities.
The Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Faruk Bahago has appealed for the suspension of ongoing industrial action by University Unions for the benefit of all, and promised to continue to give full support and co-operation to the growth and development of the Institution at any time.
The Chancellor made the appeal when members of the Management University led by the Vice Chancellor Professor Abu Kasim Adamu paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.
The Chancellor who is also the Emir of Minna appreciated the Management for the visit and expressed concern over the continued strike action.
He congratulated the Management for the achievements so far recorded in the University, especially for the full accreditation of some courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Dr. Bahago who expressed delight with the way the Management is piloting the affairs of the institution, also promised to contact and dialogue with major stakeholders to ensure the completion of the abandoned projects on the campus.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor Professor Abu Kasim Adamu said members of the University Management were in the palace to update His Royal Highness on the growth and development of the institution.
He thanked the Chancellor for his usual speedy intervention during the crises between the Management and the University Unions, adding that more of such royal interventions were needed for the smooth running of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor informed the Emir that the University was preparing for another admission exercise for which 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 admissions are likely to be combined, and the online screening and result verification will soon commence.
Professor Adamu said if all things being equal, the Management is considering November this year for the 4th convocation ceremony to take place.
He said the Chancellor’s assistance was needed in calling on the major stakeholders to rally round the institution for more support.
The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu has flagged off entrepreneur training at the University’s Entrepreneurial Development Institute at the main campus, Lapai.
The Vice Chancellor who thanked the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing system for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) for granting the University the permission to train prospective entrepreneurs, equally congratulated the participants for being pioneer trainees.
He advised them to take the training serious in order to manage their businesses very well and to be able to pay back their loans comfortably to pave way for other beneficiaries.
Professor Adamu appreciated the Federal Government for initiating the programme which, according to him, will reduce the level of unemployment, insecurity and other social vices among the youths.
He assured the University’s Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development (CIED), the Consultancy Services Unit and the trainers of the maximum support of the Management in the success of the programme.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Director, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Sadeeq Gudugi traced the history of the Entrepreneur Development Institute to an application written to the Central Bank by predecessor, and supported by the University Management.
He disclosed that shortly after the portal was opened, about One Hundred and twenty prospective entrepreneurs indicated interest for the training, with only about thirty of them qualified to form the first batch.
The Director however assured other applicants that the training is a continuous one and would be part of it, having fulfilled the conditions for qualification.
Dr Gudugi stressed that the training which covers basic management techniques, will last for five days after which the certificate issued can be used to access loan from the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing system for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) Micro finance Bank.
Giving a closing remarks, the Director, Consultancy Services Unit, Malam Suleiman Liman that led the Vice Chancellor and other members of the University Management team for honouring the invitation to grave the event.
He disclosed that similar packages from the Federal Government aimed at improving the lives of the people are being gathered to be package for the the University beneficiaries.

The fifth Council of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai has held its inaugural meeting.
Addressing members at the University’s Council Chamber, the Chairman, Major General Idris Garba (rtd) welcomed them to the forty-seventh meeting of the Council and congratulated them on their appointments by His Excellency, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, the Visitor to the University and Governor of Niger State.
He requested members to make use of their diverse experiences in making meaningful contributions towards the upliftment of the University.
General Garba, who is also the Pro- Chancellor said he observed that a solid foundation has so far been laid for the present Council to build on.
The Wazirin Lapai expressed confidence in the Management team and prayed God to continue to make the University grow from strength to strength.
Briefing the new council on the development in the University since the last Council meeting held in February this year, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu enumerated Academic and Research activities, Institutional collaborations, NEEDS Assessment and TETfund interventions as part of areas where the Management made some strides.
Others, according to him, are Funding, Accreditation matters, Administrative issues and Student/Student support services.
Professor Adamu, on behalf of the Management welcomed the new members of the Governing Council to the University and wished them a successful service to the University.
The Vice Chancellor also paid tribute to members of the Fourth Council for their sacrifices and immeasurable support to the University, adding that posterity would surely judge them right for such wonderful contributions.
The resource verification exercise for the assessment of some postgraduate and undergraduate programmes at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai by teams from the National Universities Commission in line with its Basic Minimum Academic Standards (BMAS) has been concluded successfully with commendations and some suggestions that would take the Institution to enviable heights.
Addressing the Management during the exit briefing session by respective Leaders of the teams that assessed Msc, Phd and Undergraduate programmes in the University, Professor Hammawa Mohammed Baba, Computer Science; Professor John Mawak, Microbiology; Professor Joseph Amada, Geology; Professor Abubakar Musa, Mathematics; and Professor Yushau Suleiman Imam for Undergraduate Islamic Studies respectively lauded the efforts of the University Management for providing state-of-the-art facilities in the Institution to facilitate teaching, research and learning activities.
The Team Leaders also expressed satisfaction with the serene environment and the level of human capital development programme for post graduate education in the University; adding that the spirit of oneness among staff was highly commendable.
They, however, encouraged the Management to critically consider the suggestions they made, which when implemented would make the University stand at very competitive position with its peers globally.
Some of the recommendations made included recruitment of additional permanent academic and technical staff, infrastructure development in terms of expansion of lecture theatres, laboratories and offices to enable admission of larger numbers of students, among others.
The Team Leaders expressed deep appreciation for the kind reception accorded them through out the exercise.
Also speaking, National Universities Commission (NUC) representative, Hadiza Ramallan appealed to the University Management to take the recommendations very seriously, and advised on the use of internal Quality Assurance mechanisms to ensure efficiency of its operations.
She appreciated the commitment of IBBUL staff to the exercise and thanked the Management for the cooperation and support accorded them throughout the period of the exercise.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu thanked the teams for being fair and objective in their assessments.
He said the exercise was a good opportunity for the University to upscale its facilities in line with BMAS of NUC, in order to produce graduates that could favourably compete with their colleagues everywhere around the world.
Professor Adamu assured that the Management would look into recommendations made by each team with a view to implementing them, adding that all deficiencies would be rectified by making sure that quality and standards were not compromised.
The teams were earlier received by the Vice Chancellor, who assured them of the Management’s maximum cooperation during the exercise.
A professor of Pharmacological Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, Professor Dickson Achimugu Musa has said that Nigeria ranked eleventh in terms biodiversity in Africa with nine hundred species of plants, nine hundred and forty species of birds, three hundred and three mammals and four hundred and seventeen species of reptiles.
Professor Achimugu Musa made this known as the University’s Twenty First Inaugural Lecturer with title, “Exploring Nigeria’s Natural Treasure Trove: A Pharmacological Biochemistry Journey From Plant to Pill”, held at the institution’s auditorium, Lapai.
He stressed that Nigeria has the potential to lead in the research into medical plants to the development of new drugs and therapies, urging African researchers to collaborate and share expertise as well as skills in order to accelerate drug discovery efforts to ensure traditional medicine and modern pharmacology.
Professor Achimugu called on governments to provide support and funding, create policies to ensure safe and ethical exploration and use of natural resources for medical purpose for Pharmacological Biochemistry research in Nigeria and Africa.
The Inaugural Lecturer also urged researchers and universities to partner and invest in drug discovery research and infrastructure to promote biodiversity conversation and provide opportunity for the commercialization of successful research results.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, affirmed that plants turn to pills is very beneficial to major stakeholders in the sector, especially pharmaceutical companies.
The Vice Chancellor commended the twenty firsts inaugural lecturer for suggestions and coming up with ways on how plants turn to pills for health purposes, calling on other researchers to emulate the scholar in the area of specialization to bring economic, social and political benefits to the country.
Professor Abu Kasim also disclosed that fourteen Associates Professors have been promoted to professorial cadre, congratulating them for their doggedness and resilient at all time.
Earlier, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Conferences and Seminars, Professor Victor Are Kolawole explained that the lecture is in the area of herbal medicine, noting that products made from botanical or plants that are used to treat diseases or to maintain health take the day.
Professor Kolawole noted that this will be of strategic importance for the Research and Development Unit of the University as well as the center for Research Commercialisation for potency, adding that this could pave way for the establishment of Department of Pharmacology, a take off for the University’s drug manufacturing company.

The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu said sustainable systems for health are the foundation for defeating today’s infectious diseases.
The Vice Chancellor stated this in an opening remarks at the Nineteenth Inaugural Lecture on, “Mathematical ModelAs A Recipe for the Control of Infectious Diseases: Perceived Benefits Versus Unintended Consequences”, presented by Professor Musa Bawa and held at the Main Campus Auditorium.
Professor Abu Kasim noted that the Nigerian Medical Practitioners and financial experts have all the opportunities to be rightly informed through various media house on the current issues on perceived benefits and unintended consequences of infectious diseases ravaging the nation.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated Professor Musa Bawa for being the nineteenth Inaugural Lecturer as well as accepting the challenge which is very critical for every scholars, adding that he has achieved one of the cardinal dreams of being an astute academic, urging other academics in IBB University who have attained the rank of professor to join the queue, assuring them of the Management readiness and support as well as other scholarly efforts that would positively transform the society.
Earlier in his welcome Address, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Conferences and Seminar, Professor Victor Are Kolawole explained that the Inaugural Lecture Series nineteenth is very apt and topical given the emerging and re-emerging situations of our time.
Professor Kolawole added that the aim of the Inaugural Lecture included mandating all Professors to give inaugural lectures within two to three years of their promotion or appointment, adding that it offers a professor a unique opportunity to showcase his or her work in the field of specialization to merit his admission to club of professors, bringing a sense of fulfillment, self actualization and belonging to the inaugural lectures among other opportunities.
He further added that the primary goal of the committee was to ensure that the inaugural lectures are delivered as at when due in line with the waiting two to three years after promotion or appointment as professors as stipulated by Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU).
Professor Kolawole also announced that there will be other Inaugural Lectures to be delivered by Professor Salihu Muhammad Niwuro of Political Sciences in September; Professor Musa Dickson Achimugu of Biological Sciences to be delivered in October, and Professor Lawal Salahu of History and International Studies to be delivered on November twenty twenty three respectfully.
Also the Representative of the Visitor and Commissioner of Tertiary Education, Abdullahi Adamu Mammagi said the administration of Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago is placing high premium on providing an enabling teaching and learning environment as part of his human development plan so as guarantee production of quality graduates across all Tertiary Institutions.
Mammagi stated that plans are already underway to engage the TETFUND with the view of attracting more additional grants for the overall development of the sector in the state.
Presenting his Inaugural Lecture, Professor Musa Bawa explained that the history of mankind has been shaped by the pitiless outbreaks of infectious disease pandemic.
He said in the last decades, emerging and re-emerging epidemics such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and measles cause death to millions of people each year, and recently the Covid-19 Pandemic, affirming that Mathematical modelling over the years has been beneficial in examining various diseases dynamics and plays an essential role in the understanding of epidemics noting that it plays an essential role in the understanding of epidemiological designs for disease control.
Professor Musa restated that Mathematical model is developed in order to enhance ability to understand, predict and control behavior of the system being modelled, adding that it is a tool for ensuring healthy population and infact a veritable tool for national development in all ramifications.
The Inaugural Lecturer said efforts should be intensified to significantly reduce the number of missing people with HIV, TB, COVIC-19 and other infectious diseases, calling on Government and Non-Governmental Organizations to extensively utilize the quantitative information emanating from scientific research particularly mathematical models.
In a Vote of thanks, the Registrar of Alhaji Idris Saleh Kusherki appreciated the Governor of Niger State, Commissioner of Tertiary Education, Council and Management of the University and all other people present at the events.
Nigerian politicians have been called upon to give more priority to nation building than self centeredness.
The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu made the called at the Nineth National Conference of the Department of History and International Studies held at the University Auditorium.
He urged politicians on to come together irrespective of ethnic and political affiliations to make Nigeria a better place to live.
The Conference is with the theme: “Power, Authority and Governance: Some Critical Challenges in the Post 2023 General Elections.
Professor Abu Kasim Adamu explained that while general elections are over and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed as the winner at the Supreme Court, there is the need for all political stakeholders to come together to finetune ways of moving the country forward.
The Vice Chancellor noted that with Nigeria facing a lot of challenges like general insecurity, poverty, food insecurity, infrastructural decay, education, health and other sectors that needed urgent attention, success will not be achieved without cooperation and contributions from all the relevant stakeholders.
In his welcome remarks the Head of Department of History and International Studies, Dr. Mamman Saba Abdulkadir highlighted the importance of the theme of the conference, saying Nigeria is passing through a challenging period since inception of the present democratic experience, 1999 to 2023 which requires the academia to take stock of milestone and challenges to chart out new ways.
He added that Nigeria is moving very close to a failed state scenario where the country leaders time and again neglect stewardship of public food in favor of zero sum political games and accumulation of personal and family wealth.
He also qouted the premier of Northern Region, late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto who summed up the essence of government as “A government has no business of being a government if it is not built on an acceptable constitution that protect the rights, life and property of it citizens, guaranteed the rule of law and provides greater happiness among the greater numbers of the people”.
In his presentation the Keynote Speaker the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Nasir Maiturare x-rayed the 2023 elections as one of the most competitive presidential elections in the history of Nigeria, adding that power, authority and governance constitute the tripod upon which the destiny of nation rest.
He said that Nigeria faced serious challenges during and after the 2023 general elections, maintaining that the nineth conference of historians and social science scholars would explore the situation with the academic rigour.
Also in his presentation the Lead Speaker, Professor Abubakar Sadeeque Abba, a professor of Political Economy & Development Studies, Conflict Ology and Alternative Paradigms,
Department of Political Science & International Relations, University of Abuja, said the first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant, followers cannot be mere consumers of good governance; they must be participants and co-creators.
He added that power Is a means to an end, not an end in itself. That power is a tool for, and an instrument of self glorification, Power, in Nigeria is a road/journey, not a destination.
Professor Abba said Post-election periods can provide opportunities for strengthening democratic institutions, such as electoral commissions, judiciary, and regulatory bodies. However, he said this also poses a challenge as it requires concerted efforts to ensure the independence, transparency, and efficiency of these institutions like Electoral Commission, Judiciary, Media and Citizens, thereby reinforcing the democratic process and upholding the rule of law.
He also said a change in government can create uncertainty in the business and investment sectors, potentially leading to economic challenges such as market fluctuations, decreased investor confidence, and policy paralysis, which can negatively impact on the overall economic stability of the country.
He explained that the Post-election periods often necessitate efforts to promote social cohesion and reconciliation, particularly in situations where the electoral process has exacerbated social divisions which may require initiatives to promote dialogue, understanding, and compromise among different factions within society.
